I had the honor of selecting paint colors for a commercial project for one of my clients recently. I selected this color for the back of some bookshelves in one of my interior projects awhile back and it turned out amazing! Places to Use Grays Harbor/Dark Night I recommend this color for my Color Consultation clients all of the time for various places in the home.ĭark Night is one shade darker than Grays Harbor and is super close to being almost navy. Grays Harbor is similar to Outerspace but is a bit lighter and has less of the indigo undertone and more of a true blue undertone. I’ll keep you posted with a post (ha!) when I pull out my paint brush (or roller) and get going. It is between Grays Harbor and Granite Peak. I am actually leaning towards painting my powder bathroom in this moody blue-gray. Last but certainly not least, is Grays Harbor. That is not to say that you can’t paint an entry in Naval or go all out in a half-bath! I just love the contrast of the dark and light colors against each other in a room like in the inspiration picture below by Sherwin-Williams. I tend to limit Naval to an accent wall or paired with some wall trim to lighten it up a bit. I am all for the deeper, moody colors right now, but I can’t help my love for crisp, light and bright. Eek! Not much light reflecting off this baby. Naval is a very dark color with LFV (light reflected value) or 4. I even recommended that my mom paint her headboard wall in Naval and it turned out beautiful! Check out my in depth review on Naval here.

After that, I trusted Naval as my first pick if a navy paint color was in order. I’m not arguing with it! Naval has been my go-to navy since I picked a different dark blue/navy that turned out way too bright. Let’s jump right in with Naval, the all-star of the year according to Sherwin-Williams. My purpose for this post is to share my top dark blue and navy colors that I love the most for interiors and exteriors. Kitchen islands are another favorite spot for dramatic accents of darker blue, along with exteriors for contrast and interest. I tend to like the darker shades of blue as accent walls, but I have also been specifying them in dining rooms above white wainscotting or for powder bathrooms that need some personality. There are so many places to use blue in the home. It’s also a color that represents security and order, which are things that are important to me in a home! If you’ve ever delved into color psychology at all, you will find that the color blue represents peaceful elements such as water and the sky. If I had to nail down why I am drawn to shades of blue, I believe it’s the soothing effect it has on me. If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know it’s true! Didn’t mean to rhyme there. Fashion has also declared deep blue as a color fashion trend for Fall 2020. Paint companies are not the only ones loving blue as I have been seeing blue all over from the likes of design magazines such as Elle Decor, House Beautiful and Domino. Classic Blue is brighter and isn’t a navy, but it’s still blue! Quick reference for colors found in this post. Sherwin-Williams decided on Naval for the 2020 COTY and Pantone chose Classic Blue as their color for 2020.

Keep reading to for a breakdown of my favorite Sherwin-Williams dark blue & navy paint colors! My husband John and I noticed that the past few months, deeper blues have been some of our top sellers for our peel and stick paint samples. I’ve been keeping a keen eye out for the latest color trends and it’s pretty obvious by now that the darker, moody blues are IT.
